Children in the second grade and up are encouraged to participate in the 11:00 worship service through acolyting. Acolytes bring the flame in (with the help of the ushers lighting the candle lighters) to light the altar candles. They are occasionally called upon to help the pastor - e.g., during a Baptism. At the end of the service, they re-light the candle lighters from the altar candles before snuffing the candles and then carry the light out of the church, symbolizing our carrying the light of Jesus into the world. Acolyting is one way for children to learn that they are an important part of our church.
